Calibration: checking that thermometers and displays read correctly

Who this page is for: Owner, Branch manager, Supervisor

Calibration records checks that a measuring instrument itself reads correctly against a known reference. Owners, branch managers and supervisors open it from Settings > Calibration. The list shows each check, newest first, with the instrument, the date, the values and the result.

  1. Put the thermometer in a cup of crushed ice and water and wait.
  2. In Calibration tap Log a check, choose the check (probe or infrared thermometer) and the instrument.
  3. Type what it reads in the ice water.
  4. Swipe Swipe to log check.

The app decides the result from the number: a probe passes within ±1 °C of 0 °C, an infrared thermometer within ±2 °C.

How do I check a fridge, freezer or hot-holding display?

Measure the inside with a probe you trust. Tap Log a check, choose the fridge or freezer display or the hot-holding display check and the unit, type what the display shows and what the probe shows, and swipe Swipe to log check. It passes when they are within ±2 °C of each other.

How do I check the dishwasher’s final rinse?

Section titled “How do I check the dishwasher’s final rinse?”

Run a thermo-strip through a wash cycle. It should change colour (82 °C). Tap Log a check, choose the dishwasher check, choose pass or fail yourself and swipe Swipe to log check.

An issue opens by itself on the Issues tab, because every reading taken with that instrument since its last good check is now in doubt. Fix or replace it, check it again, and close the issue.

The branch has no thermometer, fridge, hot-holding unit or dishwasher in its equipment. An owner or branch manager adds them in Settings > Branches or in the setup wizard.

Follow your restaurant policy. Inspectors expect thermometers to be checked regularly, and again after a drop or any doubt.

No. A check is never edited once saved. Log a new one.
